Selected Award: Julia Margaret Cameron Award
My series, Love Is A Life Story, has been recognised with an Honourable Mention in the 19th Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers.
This international award highlights the work of women photographers worldwide. For the 19th Julia Margaret Cameron Award, the work was juried by Barbara Davidson, a three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, Guggenheim Fellow and Emmy Award-winning photographer.
Receiving an Honourable Mention in the Gala Awards selection means a choice selection of photographs from this documentary series — which records the lockdown companionship of my father, John, and his neighbour, Mary — was recognised as part of this international award.
Love Is A Life Story grew from the everyday moments I photographed while caring for my father during lockdown. Through photographing John and Mary, I documented their companionship at a time when ordinary routines had disappeared and human connection became both limited and paramount.
To have this personal series, made while caring for my father, recognised in an international award is particularly meaningful to me. I am incredibly pleased that their story has been seen and recognised, and grateful to Barbara Davidson for selecting the work.
