Press Feature: Milton Keynes Citizen
Since the Covid lockdowns began in March, I have been cycling daily to see my father at his retirement home in Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes. His facility is surrounded by a beautiful garden shared by the residents. We were able to walk there together while keeping the required two metres apart. The other residents also kept their distance, and there was a lot of waving and air hugs going on!
During this time, I decided to reignite my photographic practice and resurrect my old Nikon 35mm cameras, which surprisingly still worked perfectly! It was a lot of fun taking distanced portraits and interviewing the residents about their lockdown experiences and wartime memories.
The Milton Keynes Citizen picked up on the project and requested to run two articles on the series. It was lovely for the residents to see themselves featured in the local paper. It provided a welcome bit of light relief and a much-needed distraction from the gloomy and relentless Covid news.
