Selected Award: Portrait of Britain
I can now announce that my portrait of Lana from my project 900 yards is a winning image in this year’s Portrait of Britain Vol 6 award, with thanks to British Journal of Photography.
I was really pleased to sneak another one in there of Rodney and his person Peter as a shortlisted image.
Both are published in The Portrait of Britain vol 6 book available Bluecoat Press The 100 winning portraits are now being displayed around the UK on JCDecaux screens. Portrait of Britain aims to capture the diverse faces that show the unity of Britain.
900 yards is a project that explores the green spaces in Milton Keynes and the variety of people who interact with and benefit from those spaces. It is a shared resource, and it’s free! Over 6000 acres of green space in MK is managed by The Parks Trust an independent charity. In most cities the green spaces are managed by the local authority, but the founders of MK did things differently ensuring the green spaces will exist in perpetuity.
Their vision was to create a new town where the parkland and landscapes would be protected. A city where everybody would be within 10 minutes (walking) of green open space. All the portraits in this series are taken within (10 mins) 900 yards of my front door.
