Artist Talk: Pasadena Photography Arts

I was invited to present my series, Love Is A Life Story, at the online Open Show hosted by Pasadena Photography Arts in California. Despite it being the middle of the night in the UK, I managed to stay awake!

The virtual event was themed “Family: The Ties That Bind/Unbind” — a perfect topic for my project. Presenting alongside other photographers, I had the opportunity to share the imagery and the deeper narrative behind my work with an American audience.

During the talk, I spoke about documenting the unique lockdown companionship between my father, John, and his neighbour, Mary, and how the camera can capture both the vulnerability and resilience found within family dynamics and close-knit communities and also how the act of photographing itself can be a kind of therapy for the carer as they navigate the trauma of watching a parent or loved one deteriorate.
