Publication Selection: EOTM Vol. Two
A selection of my documentary work from my Japan archive in the 1980s–90s has been chosen for publication in XFEL Employee of the Month Vol. Two.
This specific body of work was made in Hokkaido, Japan, where I documented a local dairy farming community. The project focuses on an intimate narrative following a grandmother on the farm, alongside images tracking a local Buddhist priest on his daily visits through the community.
Drawing from my background bridging British and Japanese cultures, these photographs explore everyday life, connection and community in rural Japan. The work is part of a much larger archive made during my time photographing in Japan, and I am pleased that at least some of this work has made its way into print.
Seeing these photographs, made several decades ago, finding a new audience is a wonderful reminder of the value of an archive and of the stories that can remain relevant long after the photographs were first made.
